Bluffton, South Carolina, has a new craft beverage establishment: Bee Town Mead and Cider. Located in our community, Bee Town is a meadery and cidery that reflects passion, dedication, and a strong appreciation for fermented drinks. Bee Town started in 2013 to introduce mead to South Carolina. This required considerable research and cooperation with South Carolina agencies to establish this new type of craft beverage.
Choosing Bluffton for Bee Town Mead and Cider was a deliberate and meaningful decision. The area’s rapid development and its population’s interest in craft beverages made it an excellent match for their business goals. Mike Tripka is a key figure in Bee Town, bringing extensive experience in the craft beverage industry. Mike has been developing his skills as a homebrewer since 1995, with a significant focus on mead and cider. He is a certified mead judge and has utilized his refined taste in numerous contests, demonstrating his thorough understanding and appreciation for these traditional beverages. His enthusiasm extends not only to production but also to promoting the craft and sharing that understanding.
Mike’s dedication to the local community and beekeeping is also noteworthy. He is a founding member of the Beaufort/Jasper Beekeepers Association and an active participant in the South Carolina Beekeepers Association, where he frequently demonstrates his mead-making techniques. In addition to beekeeping, Mike is a recognized figure in local business and homebrewing circles, holding a founding membership in the Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce and actively participating in Rotary, as well as contributing to local brewing groups. His commitment to both the craft and the community makes Bee Town a distinctive establishment.
